About me

My biggest passion is PLAY! I believe play is a basic need for children and I advocate for play in all schools.

My name is Gerjanne van Ravenhorst. I am the founder of the education consultancy Twiga dukina and an author, advisor, trainer and coach with a Bachelor in Education and a Master in Learning & Innovation (MEd).

I have 20 years of experience, including over 7 years in ECE and lower primary in Rwanda, in Nyamasheke, Karongi and Rusizi district.

In the Netherlands I have been a teacher for most of my career. I have also worked at middle management level and have led several projects in the school I was working in.

Since May 2022, I run a Play Center & Community Library (Ikigo cy’imikino & Isomero Rusange) in Shangi sector, from where we organize all kinds of activities related to play, games, sports and reading for all ages. Read more about these activities here

In my work I am motivated and enthusiastic and always eager to learn. I am proactive, organized, structured and reliable. My creative and innovative skills help me to think in possibilities and to be resilient.

My focus during teaching, coaching and training sessions is on active participatory approaches. I provide clear instructions, real and clear examples and playful activities so that the learning becomes practical and easy to translate into the daily circumstances in the classroom and in life.

My biggest passion is PLAY! I believe play is a basic need for children and I advocate for play in all schools. I was already playing from a very early age in nursery school and nowadays I still enjoy to play a game with peers, friends and children!

I am based in Nyamasheke district. It enables me to live with and be part of a rural community. It helps me to deeply understand the lives of the Rwandans in rural areas. Although living in Nyamasheke doesn’t limit me to work in other districts as well.
